Maybe the Silverlight logo got mangled a bit post sign off, but I think it is hideous - fuzzy, indistinct and virtually monotone - which makes me think you are describing something different from what I am seeing, but I have checked the web, and this is the genuine logo!

Freekin sweet. Love the site. I am the logo guy between my group of designer friends, and It is always interesting to see how others view and describe my favorite part of designing. SWEET!

I ran into the Silverlight logo just this afternoon and am not surprised to see it listed in 2009's trends. Just as LO described, the design is "fresh." But Microsoft has presented more just that an eye-catching design through it's sleek and progressive logo. The blue, twisting object is electric and conveys a sense of energy and intensity. The clever use of the color blue, specifically, gives the object a tranquility that can easily turn into a fiery red or metallic black when generating new ideas and innovative applications. According to Microsoft's Silverlight site, the team is committed to helping create "visually rich experiences" through the use of their browser plug-ins. I encountered their logo from the Victoria's Secret All Access site and was impressed with the high-quality video, smooth streaming, and sleek layout - all of which are promised and delivered through Silverlight. Simply put, their logo effectively embodies the high-developed, innovative work that they do.
